My mum volunteers in a couple of local charidee shops and frequently brings stuff for the girls "because it's a bargain". Drives me potty

I've Marie Kondo'd my clothes. I should add that I've only watched 1 and a half programmes and haven't read the book, yet....

The basic rules as far as I understand are
1. Get everything out and make a pile of it
2. Hold each item- does it spark joy?*
3. Store stuff in such a way that you can see at a glance exactly what you have**

*I have added "or is it essential?" Tbh my socks don't spark joy, but I need a few pairs

**MK has a way of folding stuff, but I don't want to fold dresses or all my tops n skirts, so I will put them on a coat hanger each, rather than piling several items on the same hanger.

1. I didn't know I had so many clothes. I included all underwear, sleepwear, running stuff and coats. It was a huge mound on a double bed.

2. Most items were a pretty clear one way or the other. There were a few things that evoked good memories but I know I will never wear again. I've a huge pile of stuff to get rid of. Some of it I will try to sell, most will go to the charity shop, some is good for nothing (laddered tights, holey tops)

3. I've cleared a full shelf, a full drawer and half a wardrobe. Part of my motivation for ths was to reduce the amount of furniture we have. Marigold did her stuff yesterday and handed a couple of large bags to a neighbour. Once Mr WA has done his clothes, I am confident we'll be able to get rid of at least a wardrobe

Next up, the kitchen. With all those drawers where you keep *bits n bobs*

Sorry for the long post! Should have blogged I think 🙄

Excellent work WA
You've been busy

You've pretty much got it.
Yes some things that don't actually spark joy are necessary

Excellent WA :-) I bet that's a good feeling!

I've also started to go through my clothes and been ruthless. I've got rid of things that I haven't worn for years (dresses for weddings or special occasions), duplicate items such a work skirts (I had at least 10!!) and tatty clothes which are now rags.

I've also been through paperback books, baby clothes and toys and given to the local charity shops.

Good work WA :)

Some of my socks spark joy. I have a penchant for novelty socks and one pair is pink and red with robins wearing woolly hats.

Mrs Jigs (Luverlylegs)
Can someone help me out please? I have asked this before but perhaps not on this thread, I want to rid the house of a collection of running trophies, I don’t really want to send them to landfill, any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks

um
[Does Mr Jigs know? And will it be a surprise when his trophies have gone?]

[Other than that, buy a bigger house? Run slower? Or maybe we need a Fetch Trophy cabinet - virtual, ie pics posted for posterity, then the physical ones can be recycled, binned, made into a (possibly lumpy) quilt, given to RunFree to be re-purposed as eco awards, whatever ..]

Did a Google thing.

reddit.com

A few ideas.
I know some places that giveaway medals to kids. So must be a place for trophies. Obviously if name is on it may need to take the plaque off

".... This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day."
