Our spare room/office was also a collecting place. We really had to be ruthless and just get rid of stuff knowing that the reality was we would miss none of it even if there was nothing wrong with it, it was worth something, etc.
Before we move I still have quite a bit of old work paperwork to shred. I think I'll get a black sack of it done today.

I have a 4-5 foot tall pile of text books worth £2-300 that I have no idea what to do with
Look new as in so careful with books

Any suggestions welcome!!

Is there a Facebook group you could advertise them on? Or know anybody at the training places?

I’ve got surplus towels and bedding. It’s on my list to have a sort out with the help of the teens. Same with towels as about to buy some new ones for my new bathroom.

I need to stop buying stuff... that would definitely help with the cluttering of the house... and my bank balance!

We cleared the ‘storage’ bedroom on Monday. It mainly involved moving stuff to other places in the house, a small amount of throwing away and the start of a new box for charity. The garage is still a disaster area and it makes me feel stressed just thinking about it...

The only thing I can say about those rooms which are so cluttered you don't know where to start, is to start small. Tell yourself you'll just do one box, one drawer, one shelf. Often that's all I need to get going, as I never stop at just one. But if I did, that would be ok!

Agree Meglet, bite size chunks and then what you do need to get rid of is manageable too.

Evil Pixie is there a teacher training college near you?

I did try selling some to school before I left and they took some so it is a smaller pile than it could have been!

Towels and single bedding is always welcome at your local homeless shelter. They're not so keen on blankets. Also socks and toiletries.

Help advice and support for declutterers

Special May Challenge

".... This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day."
