Excellent suggestion. There are so many different types of vans and motorhomes at the NEC show. It’s a great place to start exploring what would suit you best, as local dealers normally stick to just a few manufacturers so ideas from visiting them will be limited.

I think we will do that if we’re not away. In Australia we had a huge 6berth motorhome it was amazing but very tricky to park

My brother has a small converted cv which we are going to insure and borrow and also thought of hiring so we get a feel for what we want.

Hire costs seem very expensive, even for just a few nights

True, but still cheaper than buying the wrong van.

Me again I found a viva to a couple of weeks ago but OH thinks it would be too small. Having never seen one in the flesh is it likely to be too small for adventuring?

My thought is as a runner it would come in handy for races / getting off the beaten track runs anyway and a stepping stone to something bigger in a few years.

There’s pros and cons for each. If you buy an old motorhome, get it damp checked and ask to see habitation check history. Moho will be more comfortable for sitting, and more privacy for toilet, etc. but the older you go the more chance for things to be / go wrong. You’d be able to get a newer van for that money and it’s definitely easier to drive and park, but would be compromising on comfort, space, and privacy for toilet (not to mention likely no shower).

Yes a shower room at least would be good as reading back see it’s a good place for handing wet clothes and we do that while boating, thanks Cath

I think I need more patience 🤣

My friend has something similar to the vivaro. I sleep in my own wee van but we usually eat/socialise in hers. It’s fine for a few nights but tight on space and a faff for longer trips. Mind you she has a bike in there as well usually.
