And therein lies my problem, Northern Exile Something self contained for off-site camping that isn’t too big to squeeze down small roads and into laybys and parkig spots…

Rosehip I suspect there aren’t many options that are bigger than a Berlingo and smaller than a VW campervan? (Does the Toyota Alphard fall into that gap?)

I would say so. Also the Nissan Elgrand, although these are more usually minivans as opposed to mini-campers.

I think a VW is the right size and am leaning towards jerbacampervans.co.uk Husband still says it’s too small

I was looking at these solwaycamperconversions.co.uk at the show last week. its a Ducato max base - bigger than a VW - and cheaper. I’d be tempted to swap the MoHo for one of their builds at some point. Especially if Nic is a hard no to going away in the MoHo still :-(

We've been very happy with the van my husband converted from a long wheelbase VW. We had a comfy bed, small fridge, two burner hob with grill and sink and also fitted in a toilet (didn't install a shower or basin, but it had a draining shower tray, so we could have strip washes). We have decided we want somewhere with more indoor seating to extend our camping season. The old van definitely relied on sitting outside.

Angus Clydesdale indeed. I asked them how much you can customise the layout options, and they said the rear is prett negotiable, which is perfect as I’d want a fixed bed higher than they usually install it to allow maximum garage space underneath.

We had a successful first trip of the year. We stayed at the Wilsons pub in Torver - it is what it is, a pub car park where the arrangements are a bit haphazard. No allocated pitch, just find yourself a space. But at this time of year not every site is open, and we don't have on board facilities so this site was perfect.
Anyway, Saturday was glorious with bright sunshine and we walked the old railway line up to Consiston, did the village and the lakeside before the return walk covering 9 miles in total. Pub meal in the evening and we were tucked up under the duvet by 10 to avoid the frost. :-)
