MandyMoo we stopped in Helmsley in our van as it was convenient for a photography workshop. Not on a site as such but the local council allow up to 12 vans in the overflow car park for about £5 per night. No facilities as such, but the public loos were open at reasonable times and there were lots of nice local eateries in the summer.

I remember seeing a programme by Robson Green in Northumberland and it looked stunning

Northumberland is beautiful Mandy, but I’m biased as I live in the next county. Stunning coastline, lots of wildlife, castles, beaches and hills.

No van but I want to visit Northumberland next year. Suppose it will be a B&B or hotel for me though

Northumberland is one of the few places we’ll leave Scotland for. To be fair, North Yorks is the other one.

Will start looking and planning 😁 if we don't get to do the Europe trip (again) next year then it may be a long UK trip up that way, if Europe does happen then it will be a shorter one and then further plans will have to be made

I agree with you there Angus. We are right in the middle and can reach the Scottish borders in an hour or Yorkshire in 90 minutes.
Northumberland is supposed to be a secret but I'm happy to recommend it to you Fetchies ;-)

I always figured you must be from there or thereabouts, Reiver. Based on your nom-de-guerre. Great part of the world. :)
