Yes, I found that after your post and suspect it's pretty close to what I heard. Will keep a closer ear out next time.

Watched a pair of red kites and a pair of kestrels criss crossing a field in hunt mode (well, the kestrels spent more time hovering). I was surprised that neither pair was bothered with the other pair. All quite happy in close proximity.

Equally I noticed crows seem to leave the red kites well alone, whereas they'll pester & chase buzzards. Is that because kites will just have a go at them? Or some other reason?

Pinkies? How different are they to Greylags? Bigger/Smaller?

The crows/Jackdaws don’t leave the kites alone here.

Maybe it’s a younger red Kite they think they can bully?

I think most birds are hard wired to dislike / be afraid of raptors or any larger birds seen as a threat. But, as ever there are exceptions. I once saw a mipit rise up high into the Lakeland sky, to mob a peregrine. Now that was brave

The red kites and the kestrel are probably after different types of prey so maybe don’t see each other as a threat.

I once found a Tawny Owl in a tree after all the small birds mobbing it showed me where it was.

They haven’t got nests to defend at the moment so might be a bit more relaxed i suppose.
We’re having a good few days with garden birds - goldcrest yesterday, Mrs GSW in and out constantly and Mr blackcap has just been on the callicarpa berries - I haven’t seen a blackcap since spring. They really do seem to like the callicarpa

WaxwingsUK on Twitter doesn't seem to have been updated since Nov 5. I hope the maintainer hasn't been predated.

@RareBirdAlertUK has some good waxwing coverage if you're not already following. It looks like Glasgow is the place to be!

If I look out of the windows here it'd be rare not see a red kite, there are just so many now. The corvids HATE them!!

Apparently on Teesside they've gone shopping (44 at Teesside Park). As suggested above them ornamental trees are tasty.

WaxwingsUK has sprung back into life, in time for me to find I missed a bunch of waxwings the other day hanging around outside one of the nicest dining pubs in North Norfolk. Now that would have been a good day out!
