Ten Cormorants on the very brown river this morning. How do they see under such murky water to catch anything?! Several singing Song Thrushes obviously enjoying the sunny, frosty start to the day.

A flurry of small birds in a tree - long-tailed tits. First time I've knowingly seen them. Great when a closer look has results!

Long Tailed Tits are superb aren't they! Despite the name they aren't "tits" though, not that that makes any difference when we see them!

I counted 12 LTTs on my fat block yesterday. It must be winter.

Small flock of snow bunting near Sergeant Man yesterday.
And a weird red deer that came up to me in Langdale, sniffed at me, then followed us for the next 4 miles, never more than a few feet away. She was finally defeated by a deer fence. Which was a relief. No idea what was going on. A walker passing in the other direction said I was clearly a "deer whisperer". All quite unnerving.

I was up at Leighton Moss on Tuesday when the Waxwings arrived. I managed to miss them each time they popped into the trees by the visitor centre
Still had a 41 species day, which wasn't bad. Plus the otters playing about.
