All other finches present at some time in the year, usually not all at the same time ;)

Great hawfinch pic.

Austria here too, I thought I saw my first house martins today but perhaps they are crag martins - never heard of them before.

Little ringed plover our spot of the day. And a comedic moorhen climbing vertical twigs to get to new green shoots. You had to be there.

When I booked the holiday house for this week, I saw there was a nature reserve out the back (Maer Lake). What I didn't research was access ...

Access to this twenty-five acre ornithological site is severely restricted, so that resident and visiting birds will be granted the peace and security to feed, roost and breed. Viewing is strictly from the road.

The most we've seen is geese flying over - seems they come in to roost (?) at night and off out somewhere each morning, just about now.
The road is mainly bordered by a very high and thick bramble/gorse/other hedge.

Horrible news about the fire at Parkgate :-(

It's an amazing site for SEO, hen harrier and merlin amongst many others. Devastated.

Just got some pics from my BiL. I hadn't associated your post with 'that Parkgate' and reed beds. Apparently about a square kilometre? And 'kids'.

Not good.
