Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

They won't be that far apart at all, albeit the direct route crosses lower-lying farmland rather than the heather upland of the North Yorks Moors. I'm going to have to keep my eyes and ears out for them more now; I'm so much more used to seeing grouse up there though their startled call and wingbeats mean you can hardly miss them.

There should also be Golden Plover on those moors later on. I've seen them before near Rosedale.

Chiffs and Blackcaps widespread around here now. Marsh Tit along my trail run twice this last week. Only my second in a decade.

First chiff of the year for me yesterday. Heard on my bike ride close to Segedunum. Heard two in the same spot today.

Still no chiffs, but loads of mippits and skylarks on the moors, all practicing their parachuting manoeuvres.

Have been watching a pair of great black-backed gulls on farmland at a distance, but saw one this week at close range. Lovely!

We had a hawfinch on our feeders this morning. Never seen one of these before. He’s a very handsome chap. Rather like an overgrown chaffinch
