Two curlew, I’m pretty sure, out on the moors today. Not seen them up there before.
At least I didn’t get divebombed today especially as I was recceing one section of a race for Sunday. I noticed a race next month has a section out of bounds to protect ground nesting birds for example.

If you were recceing the race I think you were then I saw one, possibly two Curlew on a section of moor five or six miles north of there two weeks ago and would expect to see them around that race route. I was looking as I ran through there last weekend but it was blowing a hooley on Saturday and apart from a lot of Red Grouse and some windblown Mipits there wasn't really anything moving on the Moors.

Bilsdale. Specifically today between Carlton Moor and Scugdale. I do a good majority of my training around that area and I don't think I've ever seen a curlew once. If I head more west towards the Pennines, I tend to see them plenty enough, and a lot more lapwing too (possibly not the best terrain for them on some of the exposed heather moors though).
And now you also mention pipit, I think you may have ID'd a couple more sightings from this week. I reckon it certainly matches the call I heard on Tuesday morning.

Curlew envy! Definitely none of them down here.
Really strange bird sound as something flew away from our garden as I let the dogs out last night. First thing my head thought was owl….
That would be a surprise. I have no idea how to describe the noise though 🤣

Stranger things have happened. Just been listening to the Collins bird app and it sounds like a Tawny. We hear them quite often on evening dog walks on the Wedge (about half a mile away), but never up round here.

I was on Great Ayton Moor above Gribdale car park when I saw the Curlew. I'm relatively new to the area and so far I've not really been around Carlton Moor but I suspect that will change in relatively short order.
