Spotted a dipper again on the same stretch of river I saw one last week. Suprised as it's not the sort of fast-flowing water I have seen them on before. And it's right in the middle of town.
I'm going out for a lunchtime walk to see if I can spot it again...

We get them down the canal which isn't rocky or fast-flowing, so they seem pretty adaptable.

Like kingfisher (and possibly more do) dipper seem to need clean water. Kingfisher are common even on the more urban parts of the Leeds Liverpool canal

Up in the Cheviots at the moment and this morning's drive down the Coquet valley got me my first Fieldfares (two big flicks, one a 100+) and Bramblings of the winter plus a Dipper and a Goosander on the river.

Interesting on how versatile dippers are.
The local river is obviously much cleaner than it was 20 years ago as we do see kingfisher and dipper.
Didn't see one on my walk

Shallow riffley water is good, and rocks. Look out for white ‘tell-tale signs’ of dippers

Yes DT - it was the white flash that gave it away.
With the recent rain the river is in spate so there's not much in the way of exposed rocks for them at the moment.

Well today started well in the Coquet Valley but icing on the cake and the highlight of today's bogtrot in The Cheviots was a Hen Harrier that cruised over the ridge in front of me. Close enough for me to ID with the naked eye but sadly it turned tail and disappeared back over the ridge not to be seen again. A new spot for me and it put a right smile on my face to see it.
