Leadmill Bridge just south of Hathersage (further up the Peak) is an old favourite spot of mine for a dipper
One suggestion is listen to recordings of the bird’s call (and song) before you go dipper spotting. I very often hear one before I see it. Look out for the white on the chest

Chiffchaff again in my garden and a female Sparrow Hawk startled the group of birds enjoying the feeders.

I glimpsed a kingfisher on Saturday, first time I've seen one for a year or 2.

Would be good if it did Derby but October Chiffs in the past haven't heralded any over wintering ones. I really need to look a bit more closely and see if I can find a Siberian Chiff...there are enough about nationwide.

Siberian chiffchaff a good example I believe of a bird where learning calls / songs / sub songs etc is worthwhile?

Weekend in a field in Shropshire, and don't think I've ever seen as many buzzards or kite in one place; getting blasé about them by the end of the break. Other highlights included redwing and fieldfare, a tree full of amazing greenfinch greenfinch, a green sand and my first yellowhammer of the year.

Heard a chiffchaff. Gloomy but mild morning. It could be late March

Yeah Derby; Siberian Chiff song is very distinct, its plumage has no hint of yellow. I'd prick up my ears sharpish if I heard one and locate it!
