No red wings or fieldfare here.
Lovely walk along the beach tonight, plenty of curlew being the highlight.

I saw a local report of Fieldfare over today but I've not spotted any. Also reports of Redwing heading NE into the wind as well as the usual SW movement. Has the unusual wind direction confused them?

I tend to think of winter thrushes marauding around all over the place looking for and eating berries. Itās not like they are either here to breed, or have traditional sites where they stay for winter. Pinkies can and do cross the country during the winter so even they donāt stay put

Walked the usual "berry tree route" yesterday but no sign of winter thrushes (or anything else).
The moors were eerily quiet too - first time for ages with no sign or sound of mippits or skylarks. Did get a lovely kestrel about 12 feet away; think I disturbed its afternoon nap.

We've got a new blackbird in the garden who seems to be delighted he is the only one who seems to have found our hawthorns so far. As he is new I'm counting him as our first winter thrush migrant š

"my" blackbird has come home for the winter - he has one white eyebrow and has been wintering in my garden for a few years now. he's happily pecking at the windfalls under that apple tree that I left for him (read cba to pick up)
saw a large flock of lapwings this evening :). We have a couple of pairs that seem to be here all year around. don't often see large groups any more.

A small group (four or five) of curlew in Wensleydale this afternoon not far from Hawes. As I said to Stef they look like curlew for sure (she spotted them) one called

Staying in Tregaron and had a great week for birds of prey. Saw numerous buzzards, a sparrowhawk, what I'm sure was a Hobby on the nature reserve and what was definitely a goshawk. Strangely, the highlight was one of the many red kite I saw on a ride today riding a thermal, looking intently down at some potential prey in a field, due the hill I was on, it was only about 20ft away, light coming through its plumage whilst I was in the shade so could see fully. I wish I had thought to try and get a picture.
