Two great spotted woodpeckers in the garden this morning, vying for the peanut feeder. We've had GSWs in the garden before on numerous occasions, but they're still infrequent enough to be exciting, and we've never had two together before. Unfortunately the peanut feeder is getting emptied in a day or so at the moment by squirrels and jays.
Meanwhile there's a queuing system for the sunflower feeders, with 10-15 goldfinches hanging around waiting for access to one of the perches.

A pair of raven nested on a roof this year in the Haworth area. I hear them overhead quite often hear and itās not exactly the Cairngorm or Lakeland. Fantastic birds

Yes, ravens have obviously increased their range over the last decades. They always used to be a bird of remote mountain landscapes for me, but a few years back I remember being surprised to see them in wooded country a little west of Peterborough - undulating but certainly not mountainous.

20 years ago Ravens were a very rare sighting round here but they're now a daily sighting and I'm aware of several locations within a mile or two of the house that have had nests in recent years. It's been great to see them thrive against the general backdrop of species struggling to maintain a hold in areas where they were once common.
