Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks DT.

Lovely to get goldfinches C-Cat.

Went to Attenborough reserve today, only my second time there, having passed by thousands of times on the train. Added reed bunting to my lifetime list and sand martin to my yearlong list. There was a red-crested pochard in the lagoon by the visitor centre but I'm wondering if this was an escaped pet.

I had what I think was a female bullfinch in the garden today. It almost landed right beside me then ate the seeds from a dandelion a few feet away. Does that sound typical behaviour? Not one I am familiar with.

Also a pair of mallards were trying to get into Asda via the sliding doors. They walked up to everyone exiting. Possibly trying to sell an upgraded Sky package?

Becca, there have been a pair of Red Crested Pochard at Carsington too on and off most of this spring that certainly "wild" now but no idea of there origin and what generation of escapee they are?

Finished my trip to Islay and Jura with a definite Golden Eagle on Jura and a 90% + Hen Harrier at Loch Guinart as I was listening to the Corncrakes again at sunset. Missed a White Tailed Eagle by minutes though last Thursday at Finlaggan on Islay. They are apparently nesting near by and regularly visit the Loch.

I've been obsessed by the blue tit cam on springwatch today. There's a scrawny one in the middle that looks rather behind in development compared to the rest and doesn't seem to get given food :-(

Thanks flyingfinn, I'm counting that then. I was thinking that there are other species like ring-necked parakeet that began as escapees and I've counted them, so I will count this pochard, too.

Some great spots in that trip to Scotland.

Took a trip to Rutland Water today and added osprey, little ringed plover and dunlin.

I'm staying on the west coast of Norway this week. I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to birds but we have two seagulls nesting in the garden of the house we are staying at. And probably a lot of more interesting birds that I won't recognise.

How big are the gulls? Are their wings white, grey or black?
