Seen a red kite today, a lot closer to home, near the Conwy Estuary by Glan Conwy.
Also, I know I'm very late, but up Moel Hebog today was followed all the way around by the sounds of cuckoos...still not seen one though!!

Another wholly unexpected garden sighting today - an oystercatcher flying over my garden in suburban Norwich, piping away.

Skylarks very vocal at Beeston Parkrun on saturday - i turned to a runner as i went by and said as much, only to have no reply as they were listening to some inferior music through their earphones. I swear i'm going to carry a pair of scissors next week.

Great news hereabouts is house martin numbers are up after a few very lean years and one of our neighbour's bungalow has them nesting under the eaves

Chrisity, where I go running most days is a beautiful riverside route through marshland and woods. It is full of the sound of birdsong - warblers of all kinds, thrushes, cuckoos. But most people I pass have earphones in, listening to music, and many of them are looking at their phones as they go. I wonder why they are outside at all.

Glad someone is still seeing Little Owls DT. They have all but disappeared round here in recent years.

We have 6 or 7 territories within 15 minutes drive of home. They seem to do well on the edge of the Dales in the rolling high pastures and farmland

They used to do well here and for a while I thought it was just me not seeing them but they have now been flagged locally as a disappearing species. They used to appear pretty much daily on the sightings lists for the reservoir and it's surrounds but are now considered a rarity. We seem to have had a significant reduction in the number of Barn Owls too.

Barn owls are rare here and I suspect strongly any we see are winter visitors from Europe. There's a very good long eared owl site between us and Exileland and I've been meaning to go for years. Crossbill, tree pipit and raptors on the bill there too

I have never seen or heard a cuckoo. My dad says they were regulars when he was a nipper (born 1944) but he hasn't heard any in decades. No chance of little or long eared owls either. It is a bit strange as the Irish sea isn't huge. Mind you, we don't have moles or toads either. St Patrick wasn't overly specific when he got rid of all our snakes😉🐍🍀
