Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm not saying it isn't without risk :D I just didn't feel like having to pull the front end off the car, or the engine out, as there was no way to lock the crank otherwise! the access to the flexplate is just enough to be able to undo the torque converter bolts, but not enough to lock it in place on the ring gear... I only wanted to change the leaking oil seal.

There’s a short video of someone doing that to a TD5 on the web. Didn’t fancy it much myself!

In other news, parts aren’t arriving until 1800(ish) according to DPD courier. And I’ve tried but Torquey McTorquewrench isn’t going to fit (too deep to get in behind the radiator). So all bets are off until I get back from Italy a week on Sunday.

Which makes me sort of happy. Hopefully it’ll have warmed up a bit. My fingers nearly came off this morning. Frost finally melted at 1230!

Can you get a shorter socket on it? I imagine even if you can get it off, getting it back on with the extra depth of the harmonic damper in place is going to be even harder.

Good time for a coolant flush then :D

To prove just how old school (old school, not old) I am , and because i have a deep rooted distrust of French cars (that were built in Poland by Toyota) I drove an extended route home last night with minimal electrics operating just to make sure the battery got a decent charge.

In my defence it'll be 6 Y/O this year and a bit shit, so likely to conk if I don't keep it charged, also I don't own any jump leads.

We are looking at trading in our 11yo car this year, and I wondered if this thread could offer any sage advice on buying / haggling tactics. Anyone?

well well well!

Know the market.
Use Parkers and know how much yours is worth
know that there is another one at "insert arch rival dealers name here" that they will do for less or has less miles etc
there is no car that good that you will not simply walk off from
If a sales person leaves you to 'Go & speak with a manager/check the database' they are lying, they are leaving you to stew, after 5 minutes leave, tell the receptionist you are going, let them know they have lost a sale unless they want to be an adult
Know when to stop talking, give the sales person the silent treatment filling the silence is generally a way of costing yourself money.

Ignore the windscreen price, make them an offer, then be quiet
depending on where you buy from most warranties are useless, don't let that sway you
Same as 'matts and flaps' who gives a flying fuck?

Ask for a tank of gas after you have negotiated your prices
It boils down to cost to change, either the price of the car you buy or how much they give you for yours, agree each separately, don't get distracted into changing what you are speaking about.

THE MOTOR TRADE HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE THE 70's they are still sharks and bastards
