Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

You're going to have fun getting that crank pulley nut off :D 1" drive socket and breaker bar, plus a 6' scaff bar may come in handy! Locking the engine might prove harder, I hope it's not an auto box.

I thought the 250 ft-lb of VW hub nuts was bad enough, at least there you have nice easy access and can stop the hubs from spinning easily.

I slip a scaffold pole over a breaker bar, hold it at a measured distance and stand on a set of scales to get the right torque !

Impressive shearing😁

Auto box it is. Fun fun FUN!

Colleague of MrsC is lending us a home-made tool that he used to lock it all up when he did the same job a couple of years ago. Fortunately she’s a mechanical engineer so works with some ingenious chaps. Hoping it’ll do the job.

I’m properly impressed with the use of scales to estimate torque in your bodge-wrench :)

Had to take the crank pulley off a subaru motor recently with auto box, suggested method was to use a decent socket on a breaker bar, wedge the bar up against the chassis rail and blip the starter motor. Worked a treat to get it off :D

Otherwise it was a radiator out job to make enough space for the rattle gun, and sod that!
