Thank you both. 14 sounds about right for the time I have available.

Alternatively fetcheveryone, on the western side, you can run up the Old Man, with a nice loop on the old Walna Scar track. Or, on the eastern side, take one of the paths up and around Grizedale forest to get you off the roads. Coniston14 is a nice race. But beware that some of the roads are a little narrower and there are no pavements for the majority of the loop. It's fine on race day - but may be a bit busier with traffic otherwise. |

Yeah, I wouldn’t fancy running the section at the SW with the roads open tbh. Looking at the map it’s not that far but wouldn’t be much fun….

For the Coniston Chillswim 5.25. The swim is on the 22nd, and we have a few days either side of that I think.

I’ve done part of the loop when Katie did the shorter version of the swim back in late 2020. I’ll have a chat with K about what our plans are - it’s not just the two of us travelling. But saying hello to a few people sounds nice 😊 |

B Rubble
I've run around Coniston water a couple of times on my own. I agree that the SW corner on the A5084 is very exposed and usually quite busy. Probably not a good place to be if the visibility is poor and there are large trucks and coaches running each way. I did go up west once to avoid the road when running from Water Yeat to Coniston, but ended up adding a fair bit of climbing and 2-3 miles.

um
I'd also suggest the option of a circuit round the Old Man (eg fetcheveryone.com/t-14692585 ), or Walna Scar Road (out and back, or back via Torver and down to the lake path)
