Go Outdoors have a reasonable range so you can try them on before buying. It’s also a good way to check out reviews online whilst testing them out. Ultimately it’s down to individual factors about what’s feels good and what doesn’t. |

Linds: Cotswold Outdoor are in a few different locations so could work for you. They seems to have quite a big selection but I'd guess they are at the pricey end of things. I suppose you could go for a try on and then order elsewhere? There's one in Windsor, could be a Xmas shopping trip for you! |

I got new walking boots in Cotswold Outdoor in Keswick a couple of weeks ago and was impressed with the service - knowledgeable

Not sure where to post this... but has anybody done an OMM lite event? It's 2 days, you don't have to carry a tent, (permanently(?)) based in Grasmere, and in June. I'm thinking of dipping my toe in MMs, but the SLMM, which is the one I really fancy, is too close to the LL50. The proper OMM looks too grim, and could be anywhere, and the Silva 3 day is a bit odd. |

Not done the OMM Lite but been there for some of the Grasmere Gallop events that are part of the weekend and everything seems well organised. From what I could tell the campers are all at the showground for the weekend?

I’ve not done the lite but format is a bit similar to GL3D I think - the controls and courses are not quite as tough as OMM. I did see a map of the Cannock Chase one which clear isn’t OMM terrain. How so GL3D odd? I really enjoyed it and just had a mail shot from them. I posted to my orienteering group: “ I’ve just had a mail shot for the GL3D: For those considering stepping up the challenge of the OMM in future the Great Lakeland 3 Day is a gentrified stepping stone as day kit is carried and overnight camp usually static and not carried. There is also a marque and an option to buy food rather than trying to spoon half rehydrated lukewarm mush and avoid burning the tent down. There’s also a quiz and a Kendal Mountain Festival style cinema on the pre-event which can make for wacky-races to get there in time. As its end of April there is a fair amount of daylight too. Route length and difficulty varies from the ‘cafe’ course which is walking and mainly in the valleys to routes akin to the OMM in standard. greatlakeland3day.com |
