Done. Also had the error message like hellywobs when viewing on phone. Just tapped the screen outside the error message box and it disappeared and I could see the survey results.

The great dollop
Thanks everyone for the overnight surveys answers - really helpful - up to 185 now !
Really helping to see if the anecdotes are carrying through - club runners seem to be the most budget sensitive to last minute bookings so far - which is a concern for race directors if they a used to relying on them to get their early entries in to firm-up their race day costs of putting on the event...

Also - it's for runners, now had three triathletes answer questions totally obscurely - one basically saying they don't even run, just swim and bike. This doesn't help ! Ah for data filtering. Also triathletes seem to operate on a different planet when it comes to budgets, so that would just skew the data and expectations - off you go...

Please keep up the good work on answering - thank you ! sspimg.com/back-to-races-2022-survey

We are really struggling to get people to come out to fundraisers (quiz nights etc) and I believe it’s got a lot to do with people changing habits and spending their money on Netflix etc.

Even pre-COVID, several of our local races included an arrangement whereby organisers would give clubs a discount or a free place or two if they could guarantee a minimum number of advance entries from the club membership. For me, that doesn't make a difference - if I'm going to enter the race, I'm going to enter. But I can see that it might make club committees more likely to promote the race to members or include it as a club championship counter.

I've not answered, as I pretty much don't run any more, and don't race on foot.

However it is something being seen more widely across sports. Cycling Time Trials recently sent out a survey to all members trying to establish why numbers were considerably down. CTT has different requirements (on the day entry doesn't exist, and virtual racing exploded during lockdown), but I imagine some of the reasons will be similar. When they've reviewed and published the responses, I'll share it, should it be of interest to you.

Hi @MudMeanderer for all those reasons please do the survey !
and yes - if the CTT do publish their analysis that would be wonderful to see - very interesting to hear they are seeing something similar.

Work from home and play from home are impacting office space and leisure industry similarly !

My current summary is that lockdown - not covid illness has caused about a 33% Meh to running with people - precisely because they have discovered they don't need to during lockdown.
Every survey response helps to refine that insight - so yes - please do the survey !
thank you

I started to go away from organised races before covid and lockdown, not that I have ever raced that much. When I do do races I look for something different, more of an experience like the marathon in a prison I did last year.

I also like to set myself my own challenges or things I can do when I want to.

I'm in one race this year which is the Quin Ironman.

My guess is that parkrun has removed a lot of income for race organisers as well. Why would you pay to enter a short race when parkrun is free?

About This Thread

You do don't you ! - so here's one about entering races and things:
sspimg.com

Basically only half of us are turning up to events, and then almost a third of those are trying to just enter on the day.

Races and race directors are going bust because of it, and it's not sustainable. Even the super-massive races are down to 52% of entry no shows (like the recent Cardiff half), or only half as many entries as usual (like Colchester Half).
