RE: climbing - the speed climbing yesterday might give you the head to head, but the bouldering and lead climbing was far more exciting.

If you didn't watch it at the weekend, go back and watch it on iplayer.

When I've watched before (as highlights, not live) I struggled to keep track of the bouldering and lead events as the content only showed small elements. Live I could imagine is a lot more intriguing to watch. The speed climbing lends itself to evening highlights programmes though, but I was left wanting a little more content (e.g. why did some climbers chose an alternative route).

It also disappointed me to learn that the speed climbing walls are always identical, though I do understand why this is the case.

Board games vs esports I think is a little unfair - the speed of response and thought and tactical awareness is quite different. Though whether that means it is a sport is still up in the air for me.

Darts is obviously on a par with shooting as a sport. If anything, more so, as it's not relying on mechanical projectile (cf cars v running).

There's a chess olympiad of course. And it certainly helps to be fit to compete at the highest level. But no overt athleticism in the game itself. (Also the case for a cox in a rowing 8, but there you go.)

I've discussed before with friends about what constitutes a sport and whether it should be in the Olympics. We could only agree to disagree.

Personally I think sport should involve physical effort BUT while I'm happy for archery to be included I wouldn't have darts even though they have many similarities BUT while I acknowledge you have to be fit to be a racing driver I believe there's too much emphasis on the non human aspect to be an Olympic sport BUT having said that, does the same not apply to the horse events AND I'm inclined to ask whether anything where the winner is decided by a judge should be included AND I don't believe tennis, golf, basketball, football in their present forms should be included because the Olympics isn't the pinnacle of those sports BUT BUT BUT.. it's all so complicated!!!

Rowing is another sport where it seems to me to have too many similar categories.

Ah but that's because you don't understand the huge technical differences between pulling hard on a lever with 7 other people, versus pulling hard on a lever with 3 other people, or with 1 other person.

Oh, no actually, you're completely right, it's just an excuse for multiple medals.

Basketball nothing trumps Olympics for national teams and top international stars usually play for their countries even for the US.
