Tech disaster if a first round jump is declared a foul only after the event has concluded. Presume that such things can happen but pretty poor implementation of the new regulation.
Yes I agree. Had it been the last jump, well there's a bit more leeway but the first? They'd had ages to decide it was a foul!

Does anyone know the rules on this, because if the rule is that he has not to break the laser crossing the board and the system hasn't recorded a no jump, then I can't see how a protest using a video (which may not be in line with the board precisely) can be upheld.
Surely the former has to take presidence over the latter unless there is a technical failure.

It's extremely poor.

It looks like one where plasticine would have worked well.

Just imagine if the N+1th athlete then had to go out and take their final 3 jumps by themselves an hour later as they'd been erroneously eliminated at the half-way point.
Of course runners do also get eliminated well after the event for lane and baton infringements.
I assume the rule is that the athlete has to not go over the line, the laser is just a measuring device and not the rule per se.

My thoughts exactly jda, including that final paragraph.
But very sour for the participant himself.

"I assume the rule is that the athlete has to not go over the line, the laser is just a measuring device and not the rule per se."
Yes, but assuming the laser has been set up correctly (and there's no reason not to infer this), the question becomes is the laser not accurate and/or can we trust that the camera providing the pictures being used as evidence set up as perfectly?
It's murky at best IMO.

It doesn't usually happen in the jumps though does it? The tech should improve things not add another layer of issues. Will be interesting to hear how it happened.
Also other jumpers would have been influenced by that jump being on record to some extent.
