The plasticine had issues too.

Is there any "technology" used at the Javelin line in top level events, or purely down to the official's eye ?
Surely an official can't tell accurately is the tip of the javelin thrower's shoe crossed the plane of the line ?

Javelin throwers don't normally get near the limit.

Fozzy you can look at the bit under his shoe in the image I posted. It's so close to the ground that I don't see how angles make much difference there.

Agree, not normally, but it could happen, and it could affect the medal positions.
Seems inconsistent, but then I suppose if it was deemed a possible problem they'd have been using plasticene for years

Agree with SPR. If a thrower is near the line - or circle edge in the cage, they tend to know and either fall over or deliberately walk out forwards admitting the foul.

A bit of current topic, but I’m far more concerned on the measurement of throws tbh - how can you be certain that you get the “right” divot after running 10-15m to where you think you saw it land?

I've done about three trillion field events this year. I've heard nearly as many complaints about measuring.

SPR. The. Image. Is. Not. Straight.
You cannot infer from that image.
It's nonsense.

I disagree that you can't infer from the image.
I would like to see the decision explained though.
