that's interesting Duchess, although I would be gobsmacked if there are an equal number of murders and suicides in the US nowadays.

I think it's funny that the Scottish parliament was deliberately designed to be "weak" but has actually ended up being more effective than westminster.

TBH I never figured out exactly how the system works up here after the constituency vote but I do like that in general most parties have some representation and that there seems to be an ability to work together to get things done. Whilst obviously not everyone likes everything that is decided upon (would that ever be possible?) I think in general they have done a reasonable job over the years. |

Actually TMW it works quite well. There's no such thing as a "Safe seat" so you avoid the situation of some grandee like Mandelsonn getting helicoptered into a constituency where they'd elect a pig wearing a labour rosette. It usually turns out that the most able MP's get to represent the places where they live. |

Well, at least there is the hope of a little bit of sanity being injected back into proceedings. I still think if we promise Europe to dig a big hole, throw Johnson, Davis, Farage, Gove and Fox into it and say we'll never talk of this idiocy again that we'll be forgiven. |

It is time to remember that the referendum was only an "advisory" vote.

Nice to have a bit of good news on this, but I doubt MPs would vote against the will of the public. But it's good that they will hopefully get to hear the terms of brexit in the HOC and maybe if that doesn't sound desirable on what was originally promised with Brexit, back to the poll booths we'll go, either for a GA or another referendum? |
