fozzy - in both cases they didn’t want to park on the road, the financial benefits are in any case not crystallised until the house is sold or remortgaged.

When I've been down to your more southern climes where sunlight is reliable, I've parked in parking spaces with a roof on your service areas or at your supermarket or whatever. Bung a solar panel on that, job's a good 'un.

Of course, that might not work in every particular situation.

An EV and charging infrastructure are significant capital investments, Fozzy. Anyone who doesn't have the cash on the hip to pay cash outright surely will be trying to find some way to amortise those costs, or, you know, afford to make the jump?

And so by your own argument (and to come back to point), paving over your front garden at a cost of ~£5000 wouldn't net you the required cash to by an EV (~£25k) until you sold the house, at which point you no longer need the driveway.

Anyway, wireless charging. Maybe.

DG - I expect most people will wait until the costs are comparable to the costs of their current option and then move.

Unfortunately even though *lifetime* costs of an EV are lower in total than an ICE, the upfront cost is going to be a barrier for a few years yet.

I was hopeful that thigns would have progressed so that by 22-23, we'd be seeing "affordable" EVs in the £15k bracket, but prices have stayed a little higher than I expected.

Remortgaging, of course, being a low interest and cost effective way to spread the initial cost of purchasing an EV, especially with a flexible mortgage product.
