This is the article shared by Nico Rosberg (yes, the ex F1 driver) about German car manufacturers being behind on EVs linkedin.com I'm not saying it's right just because he said it, but apart from the waste in shipping from China to UK, I have no problem with getting goods from China. Most of the components of your phone, computer, white goods, home furnishings etc. come from China, Korea etc. In the 80s it was Japanese stereos and TVs. I don't have a problem with that. |

So Chinas climate approach or humanitarian questionable records are to be actively encouraged now as they allow potential EV owners to say how green they are!? Interesting. Tesla also reported a fall according to the article in Telegraph. Yes China huge growth. |

Honestly, no I don't take that stand. The Chinese govt is separate from many of the companies that are manufacturing in China for starters. Now, if I was to learn that, say, MG was manufacturing their vehicles by using forced labour, then I might make a different decision. If you want to make a principled decision about not buying goods sourced from China then that is your choice. Green and humanitarian factors about China's economy are fair criticisms to be made, but there are plenty of industries above car manufacture that earn British £££ and have roots in China (aren't iPhones assembled there?). |

The EU has launched an investigation into the subsidies being offered to Chinese carmakers by Beijing. Experts at Germany's Kiel Institute estimate that BYD alone has received more than €3.4bn (£2.9bn) in Chinese subsidies in recent years, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.

"The UK government injects £4.5bn into strategic sectors, with £2bn for the automotive industry, signaling a green revolution." automotivemanufacturingsolutions.com Think most countries do that? |

Is HT just a troll? I only come across him on this thread where he seems to be trying to provoke us rather than engage in meaningful discussion. Maybe there are other threads I'm not on that he does engage with and he's just likes to play here.

I can tell you HT isn't a troll! He's a lovely chap, he's my Fetch "cousin" (same family, Happy, see!). He has a strong environmental sensibility and is quite rightly challenging us on size of EVs, impact of them, manufacture, sourcing, delivery miles etc. I don't always agree, but I think he has very valid points and I welcome his input. He posts really nice pictures on Route Picture of The Day thread. And he runs a mean marathon time and supports on sub 3:15 thread for instance. G
