Right I am no expert and not a car lover -as long as it gets me to where I want to go that does me.
We took delivery of EV Toyota 4z something on Thursday and I have to say the battery does not last long if using radio and heater.Mr went on a journey of maybe 120 round trip yesterday he had 100% full battery by the time he got back it was on 39% and 100 miles left.It is a good job it is a once a month trip but made me think about regular car users the EV does not seem good value .Yes you can charge at home for 7p a mile and if we did not have the home charger would not have gone for EV.
If I had my way it would not have been EV at all.Car also does not seem as well constructed as our old car Citroen Picasso.

I don't see the battery lasting the three years(motability)

Also as Mr is disabled and rapidly getting worse he can not cope with the charger I have had to take control of that even so he woke me up to say EV was not charging he was fretting even though I told him it searches the grid for cheapest time.So disabled folk who maybe live on there own would struggle to understand the concept.

We were told 320 miles range but I doubt that is accurate.

Battery will definitely last well past 3 years, don't worry at all about that.

Radio costs nothing on range. Heating may well do. Driving above 65mph is a big energy cost.

What home charger set up do you have? Sounds like a smart one like Octopus.

Welshpoppy, I agree plugging the connectors in and taking the out is NOT good. Requires physical strength, and on ours it's not clear if it's in and charging properly without checking the dash or the app (in the pouring rain and wind!)

They need to improve these things for drivers with limitations in physical abilities. Agree. (By the way, tech that is coming includes wireless charging while parked - like the wee pad things you can put your mobile phone on to charge). :-) G

Why won’t the battery last 3 years? There are loads of older EVs going fine. Ours has a 7 year guarantee!

And for what it's worth, I think you're right - charging at home is the killer essential, and there is a learning curve which some will find easier to climb than others. It's not as simple as just pouring petrol into a tank (though equally it's not that much harder most of the time).

Possibly easier than filling with petrol, just a different habit to learn.

You don’t get people putting the wrong sort of electricity into their EVs and needing the battery pumped out :-)

Thanks for replies I shall try to answer the best I can.Mr drives well under 65mph unless motorway but I shall make him away it drains battery.
It is OHME charger but have seen octopus mentioned on the display although we are with Ovo for energy.

Thanks for the link that is very informative and a good one to show mr.

Happy G I think the wireless charger would be a great boost as you say in the rain and wind it is even worse.I plug it in check the app for Ovo but that takes a good ten minutes to tell me it is plugged in.But there is a green light by charging port on car so I go by that.

Maybe I am wrong about battery but when fully charged 310 miles .The charge i did over night only 297 miles so seemed to lost some miles by the second charge. I was thinking it was on a par with garmin batteries etc that do not last I usually find 2.5 years and it needs replacing.

Absolutely it is far easier to pour fuel in car it is sorted for the month no stress(I was the one putting fuel in as mr found it difficult) Take last night waking me up thinking it was not charging had me awake for hours checking app to see if the battery % had gone up.
I shall just ignore Mr stress over charging infuture,
