Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Waiting for confirmation that FIL was cremated this morning (MIL didn’t want anyone in attendance). I’m trying to gently dissuade the idea of putting the ashes at his usual place at the head of the table for Xmas dinner - that’s just weird right? Or am I off base because he wasn’t my dad?

No, Christmas is a time to celebrate the living. On the mantelpiece if absolutely necessary.

That is a bit odd... Agree with McG - maybe on mantelpiece or somewhere like that if necessary.

I’m not sure I would be able to sit at the table. If she didn’t want anyone there to say their final goodbyes then I do think it’s weird shewants him with you all then.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
