Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

thinking of you LindsD

And so in other news, MIL funeral yesterday. all went smoothly. (as a recap FIL had been her main carer and looked after her at home for the last 5 years pausing his life to do so).

Funeral over, FIL went for a walk, fell over and has ruptured head of biceps and a black eye. .....I can see a future of further episodes as he tries to carry on where he left off 5 years ago.

House sale completion day! Major celebrations here. Entirely coincidentally, BiL was visiting to pick up some stuff we'd been storing for him, so we were on our way out to lunch when the phone call came in confirming.

I am so sorry Linds

HG - it really shows that the best bet is to stick the equivalent into an interest paying bank account or an ISA unless you know there is something that might lead to an earlier payout.

Sorry to hear that Linds. I guess it gets harder the older our parents get. My parents are 92 and 88 and living independently in a retirement residence. Their friends seem to die often, but as they say, that is one of the downsides of living into their late 80s/90s

Got something to say?

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
