Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Welcome Lana. Lots of experience of dementia here.

McG - has she settled about not visiting FiL?

Hi Lana.

My mum has dementia, it's a tough gig.

Talking of mum, she moves tomorrow into long term care.
My brother will see her on Weds, then I'll go down at the weekend.

As ever, we've had no updates for days, then suddenly it's all happening tomorrow.

LMH - she tried to insist someone else went to visit FiL while she was in hospital but... no. With her coming out of hospital last night she will have gone in to see him today - it's now usually a lift from carers in the morning and a taxi home in the evening. The taxi company are getting a bit disgruntled though as she's never ready and insists on them waiting.

So Mum's best friend, who was given the last rites on 4th Feb, has had her feeding tube removed and the family have been told to say goodbye. It's Mum's birthday on Weds and I was going anyway so I'll go tomorrow night after pancakes. I will stay until Friday or I might bring her back here. Might possibly go next week again. Will definitely have to get her up North for the funeral.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
