Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Sorry to hear of everyone's trials. My mum had a funeral policy like the one mentioned. Before he died, my dad instructed me to cancel it as we were paying in more than we'd ever get out. Saved us 5 years contributions. They shouldn't be allowed.

Dio, that's how I feel. Calling it Over 50s means they are actively marketing to people with 30 years to live, knowing anything longer than 8 years is a waste of customer's money. Grrr.

Limds, very sorry to hear of your and your mother's loss. Wishing you strength.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
