Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Huh? What’s the PoA about then? Attorney can sign, that’s the point!

@jda hubby is trying to avoid his involvement that may affect sale funds regarding his non-Canada taxation status. He doesn't want to jeopardise this, because if CRA thinks he's part of the sale, they may want 25% of non-Dom payment piece of flesh.

He's just a tad paranoid over this.

As attorney of course he has nothing to worry about other than his worry :-) The house and the proceeds are not his property.

A bigger problem might be if the MiL chooses this period of time to slide off the mortal coil, as that would terminate the PoA and call a halt to the whole process. As we have been enjoying this past 6 months.

Yes...that is our biggest worry as MIL is 93 years old. That's when probate would kick in, hubby is only person in her will and then would get with the 25% bit going to CRA...(Canada Revenue Agency - our version of HMRC...)

Still waiting o nan official Death Certificate, on week on. My sister got a verbal apology from the Medical Examiner's office (the Coroner part of the chain) this morning. So at least I know the Doctor has finally signed her bit.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
