3M, I think there are specialist tech recyclers who will recover the rarer metals and even reusable components, so it doesn't end up in land fill. Even metals and plastics from cables and so on. Not sure though.

I have often given larger tech kit still working to other organisations like homeless shelters and things. On the basis that a volunteer or resident there might find a use for it. But I haven't sent off cables and chargers and things like that yet for a specialist recycler. Will keep investigating.

Thanks Happy. I have a destination in mind for the laptops, but I need to check the contents of some floppy disks and CD/DVDs first!

We are currently clearing/decluttering for the move. Biggest jobs is OH's man cave - he has so many tools

Each time I move I swear I won’t accumulate clutter but I fear we’ve done it again! Mum’s house will be a massive job. Hopefully we won’t have to think about this for some time but I think an auctioneer would be a good route.

I hope it goes as well as it can stilldreaming.

My parents paid a lawyer to do it, with the result that they had to pay another lawyer to do it again when a mistake was (fortunately) discovered - and just in time, too…

Same £80 something in Scotland but just x 1 health and money joint in one. that I did for my mum. Note also it takes 6-9 months to be checked and in force. Also, if you do make legal wording booboo it could be challenged later. But by who? I decided to just chance it.  :-) G

There was very little information to get wrong, as far as I saw. Name, address, DOB - that sort of thing.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
