Nephew is mid-twenties and on the autistic spectrum. Can't get work but goes over to mum's each evening and stays the might just so there's someone in the house in case of such eventualities. He is really empathetic and caring.

That is lovely.

Liebling's currently doing her Mum's online Sainsbury's shop with her over the phone. Her Mum is refusing to let the carer help her. Again.

She's ordered more Maryland cookies. They already have 11 or 12 packets.

Lasst week it was lamb mince.

'Why do you need lamb mince?'
'In case Charlie or Lisa want to make shepherd's pie.'
'But when they come they bring one they already made at home.'
'... I need lamb mince'

My Mum has asked for chocolates for her birthday and I know there are several unopened packets in her cupboard. Can Liebling just say the Maryland were out of stock?

We pick up random boxes of chocolates from FiL's house when we visit. Just working through a box of Lindor balls :-) Left by his son when he visited close to Christmas, I suspect, as they are still in date. Now he's not going back, perhaps we should be more thorough and ransack the cupboards.

The discharge process is progressing smoothly for now. Seems the hospital is going to do all the logistics and arranging, aiming for the local-to-us care home assuming it can cope with his needs. If not, well they will have to find another solution, which will be less convenient, but that can't be helped. Sounds like they are assuming that the current arm-in-sling situation is his new normal, which means he can't move around unaided.

We have tried various strategies (including taking away several packs of Lindor balls)
- say they're not in stock - she sends a carer out to get them
- push back and say 'do you need them?' and she basically throws the 'This is my house' tantrum
- take them away when she's not looking

You all have the patience of a million saints. I would struggle not to say 'well do your own shoping then' when confronted with 'this is my house'.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
