That's poor forward planning by the hospital McG. Glad there is a way forward though.

Some relief here following a phone call from the discharge coordinator, who is starting to plan for FiL's discharge......but had assessed that he wasn't capable of living safely at home and intends to find a care home.

Being in hospital for the past 8 weeks has obviously been very bad for him, but we can only shrug and recognise that there wasn't an alternative. We had just had a look round a local care home that seems very suitable, subject only to the usual Lancashire/Yorkshire issues from the hospital's side of things (that are not insurmountable) and the place itself having space (which it didn't yesterday but that's only a matter of timing, turnover is fairly rapid).

We aren't exactly celebrating, but it was the outcome we were hoping for.

Apparently his arm is in a sling of some sort, we don't know what sort of condition it's in.

Hard but it is probably for the best jda.

Couple of estate agents into dad’s today to value the property.

Glad you've got some certainty now and he's not going home. Good luck with the next steps.

Just spoke to Mum who has been quite ill all week. Doctor is looking for kidney function and listening to her symptoms I'm quite worried. Blood test results on Mon.

Thanks. She is miserable and down on all the professionals who are trying to help her as usual. It does sound pretty grim though.

Dr Google doesn't say what happens if your kidneys fail at 81.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
