My dad is physically OK but he will be very isolated where he is. They moved back from Barcelona a couple of years ago and sadly have not made friends etc.

With my brother living in Germany and me being 3 hours drive away lots of decisions need to be made. Short term wise he can stay with me as long as he wants but a 4 story townhouse in the centre of Winchester is no place for a clumsy 80 year old

She has technically gone - machines keeping her alive for organ donation. We have all said our goodbyes and are now at dad's having a gin (her fav tipple) and reliving lots of memories

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
