I'm not saying it's right Happy but I think a lot of parent's feel that they 'should' leave their children something. I guess it must be a generational thing.

Phone call early evening to say my dad's wife/my mum (dont like the word step) had had a massive stroke and they were currently in a&e. Quick dash down to Southampton to be with dad and have just got back to his house now.

J is currently being intubated, and sedated which they are gradually reducing as they don't know how much damage has been done. Hopefully will know more in the morning. My poor dad is in shock - they were going out for dinner and she only went upstairs to change and when she didn't come down he found her laying on the bed. Had to do cpr and everything on her. Suddenly realise how frail he has got (he is 80 this year)

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
