I’ll have a think Liz and see what I can come up with. Don’t know of any books but I’m sure I can cobble together some thoughts and advice. I’ll also take a look at our hospital leaflets and see if there is anything.

It's difficult to think about the worst I know but will you feel better if you have prepared?

I would say definitely spread the load if you can. Don't feel you have to or should do everything. OH did a lot of information sharing for me. And other people do appreciate being given information.

That's good.

If she uses a smartphone, be good to know the pin or passcode.

I can’t think of a book but how we managed this was making a list of contacts and then deciding h who to inform at each stage and how. This mainly led to my mum (who struggled to delegate) calling close friends and family and emailing a small selection of others when it was clear it was serious. Very stressful for you.

Much less serious than what many of you are dealing with at the moment, but can I have a quick sound off about my mum? Actually sound off is the wrong terminology, more a worry! As a family we are all prone to anxiety, however one year on from my dad’s death, her anxiety definitely seemed heightened at my visit last weekend. Everything is a worry and she’s forgetting things in her panics. I fear my anxiety may be exaggerating hers in my mind! Anyway, she’s reasonably ok otherwise.

Achieving something new or being right in something can help enormously, so if you can engineer getting her to help you or someone else with something? Appreciate not all anxiety is the same or comes from same place #notadoctor

My Mum is the same CK2 and it's hard to know how much of her impaired functioning is down to anxiety and how much is decline. Dipps is right though.

Lizzie am thinking of you and advice above is good. It may help you to plan for multiple scenarios, so you feel more prepped, a bit like mitigating a risk. So plan away and then take absolute baby steps about what you put into action, because the end game is more about helping your mum now than easing logistics later, so you dont want to set her off catastrophising. I hope that helps, i think it is more advice i wish i found it easier to follow myself xx

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
