Sad days Dio but it's good that you can be with her.

Well managed from the sounds of it Dio.

Off to drop mum some clean things at the hospital.

Just a 120 mile round trip.

Bazo, can you get an on/off switch extension for the shower, so they can get the temp right then turn off while she gets in, then power back on? Or a remote control? Not sure how much work they would be to install.

I think you can get "smart” shower controls so you can use Alexa or a mobile phone to control then too? I don't suppose they're very cheap though.

Just restarted the PoA conversations with my siblings. My Mum is in respite care for the week, and we going down to visit in a fortnight. So it's a good week to set it up whilst Sis isn't too stressed, and we'll be able to all be in one place shortly after. Allegedly all the paperwork is 'almost' ready, so I just needs to negotiate between my brother and sister, and get Mum on a good day, and her friend who is there to say we're not acting against her will.

Should be easy, right?

It was very straightforward for us but we splashed out and used a solicitor when mum was in fine fettle.

We did too. And I've just discovered you can do something online that means you don't need certified copies.

Dad is currently in a community hospital for some rehab after his foot amputation. The Occupational Therapist is asking to see me and Dad's partner tomorrow, and is asking me take pics of his house, doors, bed, steps up to the front door, measurements etc, which I will do.

His partner and I are going to be (brutally!) honest about our concerns, but is there anything else I should be asking about? I was going to ask about a care plan, and if there is a social(?) worker assigned but is there anything else I should be asking whilst I have this opportunity at this early stage?

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
