Dick!
The house at the end of the sea side bit going out was roasting l.y .......but I didn't see any chickens !The day I spent in Edinburgh before the race was brilliant , it is a stunning city , but I was surprised the next day to see that so little of the race was actually in the town , the route was actually quite dull .......the medal more than made up for it at the end tho

It was soapy, my favourite medal ever I think, took it to school the next day and the kids thought it was hilarious! I didn't spot portaloos at gosford house, everyone was just nicking behind a tree for a pee and a gentleman wandered round the same tree as me and apologised profusely saying he hadn't realised it was the ladies!!! Some supporters had set up an impromptu water station there last year which was great.

Hi All,
Just found this thread, i'm going to be in Edinburgh doing my first marathon this year... I have mainly chosen it because it's flat! Although doing my long run on Sunday into a stonking headwind reminded me that the weather could still conspire against the elevation to make my life difficult.
Hope the training is going well for everyone, i'm now at the stage of focusing on the fact that it's not too long until I get to taper! I'm also still supremely confident that I will get at least one LSR in before the day in lovely benign conditions that don't involve ice/snow/gales.

Hi Yosarian, Edinburgh is also my first mara, im in the middle of achingly long runs, excessive hunger and tiredness each week, reckon another three and im there. Scared excited and apprehensive would be my current feelings. Its so difficuly to imagine doing more miles after 20, i just want to get round in a reasonable time. Whats your time goal - if you have one?

Hi sarabop, sounds similar to my life at the moment, I am loving being able to eat vast quantities without putting on weight I must admit, an unexpected and pleasurable side effect of upping my mileage! I've actually enjoyed the whole training process much more than I expected, with the exception of the occasional tough mental moments when doing the long stuff, but it'll all help in the end. It's had a great effect on my other distances to, I've been steadily bringing down my parkrun time and have taken a big chunk off my half mara PB last month... Which is great but does leave me slightly clueless as to what pace to aim for in Edinburgh. Crossing the line is obviously priority number one, and the upside of the first marathon is that's its a guaranteed PB

Edinburgh gonna be marathon 10 for me, only now I think I'm learning how to pace the 26.2 properly.
