Today I battled with my reluctant canine chum trying to add new detours to a familiar walk.

She loves new things - but doing familiar things a new way is QUITE another matter.

'NO!' says Jess, digging her paws in, going rock solid all 30 kilos of her, 'NOT that way! THIS way.'

I have not baked a cake for my Mum's birthday tomorrow as a. I don't have time and b. no one ate the last two. Instead I have dashed into town and bought pasteis de nata instead because she loves those.

I had additions to yesterday, 2 new recipes, Gluten free vegan chocolate cake (for a fetch meet up tomorrow) and a recreation of a pasta dish i enjoyed at the Thames Bridge Challenge meet up a couple of weeks ago, this recipe compared favourably.

I've been for a run this morning in newt shoes. Zoom Fly 3, lightly preloved and almost suspiciously cheap but I don't think they're counterfeit. And ran at a pace I don't use much because it's theoretically useless - neither easy enough nor hard enough - just for fun.

By this evening I will be on holiday but that's not a real newt, it's pre-planned.

On the cakey theme, I can belatedly report that I did my first ever experiment with gluten free (also vegan, though I've done vegan glutenfull stuff before) baking on Monday, which was hailed as a success by my colleagues though I feel that it could have gone better.

My next attempt will be next weekend, probably lemon drizzle cake (also vegan).

My newish (since October or so) line manager is gluten free, and another colleague is vegan, so I shall be increasingly experimenting in this area.

And there I was thinking I wouldn't have any newts this year!

About This Thread

Most of you know the score. Much in the bizarre way Easter has come to mean Chocolate, Lent is mainly thought of as an opportunity to Give Up Chocolate. At least until Easter. You know what I mean, 'What are you giving up for Lent?' * I say NO to this. Away with the hair shirts and the deprivation. Let's embrace change and the NEW. Spring is a time of renewal - and restoration.

Soooooo..... you don't have to take up indoor sky diving like my partner's 90 year old mot...
