Imagine if Pakisatan somehow get the runs with only 1 wicket to spare and an hour to play......and England had declared twice and then couldn't bat again !
Unlikely but avoidable by making them bat again.

Unlikely doesn't quite cover it. Apart from being approaching 200 more than anyone has ever scored to win in the 4th innings of a test, it would also need them to score at a 1-day kind of pace, but without the fielding restrictions. Wearing out the pitch a bit more seems the only justification for batting so long this morning.
Given the weather forecast, it seems inconceivable for Pakistan to bat out the two days.

It's 3 an over pace but they will be all out before the day is out. Amazing turn around from England from the first test.

What is possible though is that it could be a draw, probably dependent on weather or some heroic batting.England could still regret not having had that extra time.
FR, England had a 397 ( I think) lead and 418 is highest ever chase.....were England really nervous about batting last and chasing 22 ?
Jings, sure even I could help with that and I:
a) am Scottish
b) haven't held a cricket bat in 30 years !

I don't think it was a question of not enough runs, it was a question of browing off the opposition and demoralising them, this test make sit 1-1 with 2 to play, they want pakistan really fed up when they turn up at the next game.
Mind you Moeen is giving them a few runs right now.....
