Today has been perfect. Pakistan four down and we scored a huge total.

Great two days at Old Trafford - warm and dry and England on top. Some poor fielding at times from Pakistan but Root and Cook excellent on Thursday and Root never looked in trouble as he moved to 250. I didn't see the 4 wickets coming -maybe 1 - by close, the pitch has seemed pretty placid all game.

Woakes, well done, him, a few years hard work there. I think very soon, very soon, we won't need Anderson.

You beat me to it WS. Woakes has finally brought his excellent county bowling onto the international scene on a more consistent basis which was only sporadically seen until this summer. A couple more years of shadowing Anderson and learning how the master does it, the transition should be seamless.

Great to see Woakes kicking on. Hope Anderson gets to 500 wickets before we discard him though.

Why not enforce the follow on? Crush them. You have them on their knees.

Quick 100+, give the bowlers & fielders a chance to put their feet up, put the game beyond reach, then get them in again for a few overs this evening?

Seems a slightly strange decision but with it raining now that would have disrupted the attack.

They have bowled 60 overs they would have had to bowl another 30 and then they can sleep it off. 391 run lead is oodles and if you have to come back to knock off 50 or so, so be it.

Seems strange to me as well with a big lead and the rain.
