The theory is with Moeen that he's vulnerable to the short ball, but in the UAE, the pitches are so dull, er, slow, that short pitched stuff is taken out of the equation.
On faster pitches, when England have no need to play 2 spinners, Moeen reverts to no8/offspinner.
Oh the irony of Buttlerfingers improving his keeping, but now batting like a donkey. If Bairstow had been batting well, he could've ousted Buttler from the keeper's position, making room for Hales at three...

Bairstow proved why he wasn't in the team for a while yesterday.
yes Buttler has a problem, perhaps he should just pretend it is ODI.....
So the team is still full of holes really, keeper, spinner, no 2, 3 and 4.......Wood needs surgery, Anderson Injured, we got away with it.
As McGrath would say Aus 5 - Eng 0 next time...
Root must never be captain!

Yep, it's been quite a remarkable series win. We've bowled well as a unit and (crucially, IMHO) had individual bowlers take clusters of wickets. The batting, in a bowlers' series has been just about good enough (apart from Root, who is already the best English batsman I've ever seen.) Fortunately, the Aussies have been disorganised, fragile, poor against the moving ball and probably riven with internal stresses. Also, proper crowd support for home advantage (London grounds excepted, but special mention to Edgbaston!) A couple of batsmen got good balls (Bell, again, Cook again) and there were otherwise some very 'non Test class' shots. Wrigglers, MDOT, I fear that you're spot on...

Doctor K
Karl Brown opening bat at Lancashire is the type of person we need as opener. He can play steady, tedious boring innings which are ideal for a test environment. Whether he is up to that level is another thing entirely of course

Could be over tonight
Next ashes at home let's not play in London!
Whatever happened to having the temperament and discipline to bat all day, and not surrender your wicket.

Cooks doing that, let's see if Buttler can redeem his batting.

Cook is an anchor just missing the support.
Cook and Atherton of old would be a mean opening partnership in a backs against the wall scenario.
