Wow, what a day out that was! Totally unexpected, but am now very glad I bought those tickets - and at £35 i think we got our moneys worth there
I now have a 100% record of stupendous England results when I go to Edgbaston - maybe I should go more often ?

Now very worried we'll lose Rashid to England as well. Far better bowler than Ali. And can bat a bit.
So, that'll be Lyth, Ballance, Root, Rashid, Plunkett and Bairstow in the England team then....

Fozzy - genuinely, would you rather see Yorkshire do well than England?

Paul - that's a v difficult question to answer....
What I can say is that England Cricket is not the be-all-and-end-all that some posters on here lead you to believe. I think the County game is far more fascinating at times. And more adventurous (have a look at Worcestershire's decision to NOT have a wk in their 20-20 game on fri)
My previous comment was said rather tongue-in-cheek though.
What I would say is that if you took 7 players out of the Man Utd team or Chelsea team to play for England and then asked them to play a Premier league game, it would upset quite a few fans of those teams. Yes, different game, different situation, but the parallel is there.
On the positive side though, it's allowing some of the next generation of England Cricketers: Leaning, Lees, Rhodes to come through and play County Cricket. And we're not doing to badly this season despite the decimation either.

Fozzy - fair enough. I thought it might be a yes or no question, but I can see it's more complicated than that for you. I'm certain that most supporters of the 'big' Premier League clubs would put their club success ahead of England, which is a shame. I can't imagine cricket going the same way though.
I seem to remember a TMS lunch interview with John Holder (I think) quite recently where he said that he would not allow that (wk ditching the gloves and playing as a normal fielder). Can't remember what his justification was, and interesting that someone tried it very soon afterwards...

Unfortunately i am away with work at the moment and very busy so i missed all this
Checking the scorecard today, i see Steve Finn got 4 wickets, and no mention on here, was he any good?
Is this a precursor to a test side recall?

It was John Holder but I thought his comment was more that he would have disallowed a catch by the wicketkeeper wearing gloves if they weren't actually fielding behind the wicket.
A difference between county cricket and the premier league is that the bulk of the counties funding & the bulk of the top players income comes through ECB central funding and clearly a succesful England team is behind that. Taking Derbyshire as an example, they had £1.7 million out of total £2.4 million income coming from the ECB, with an additional 7 figure sum from the ECB for ground development in 2013. The income from memberships, ticket sales etc. was less than 10% of the total.

It comes down to emotional involvement: for cricket my county team is Leics, but I rarely watch them live, and England remain primary. But for several years I went to all Leicester Tigers rugby home matches, and some away games. The emotional commitment there meant that Tigers victories were more important to me than England.

Ah yes Ceratonia, I think you're right. So as long as he ditches the gloves, he can field anywhere.
