The Teaboy
My guess is that he is outspoken and can be difficult to handle in that regard - but he is totally committed and expects everyone else to be the same way. He doesn't generally get in with the dressing room cliques so if he falls foul of those then that exacerbates issues. I think the number of people he has issues with is actually quite small, but once he does fall out with those people (Mick Newell, Flower, Strauss, Broad, Swann) it becomes utterly toxic - as we have seen. In his book, he actually speaks up for Anderson and Cook to some degree. It is Flower, Broad, Swann and Prior who get it in the neck. Perhaps if Broad wasn't there, it might be reparable, but I just don't think Cook needs, wants or fancies the hassle. I think Vaughan read the situation right on 5Live last night and I'd have done what he suggested. |

I do have a little sympathy for him (perhaps the first time ever) in that he gave up a big money IPL contract to play 2nd division county cricket, having falsely been given the hope of a spot in the England team. If there was no chance of him being picked, they should've been more honest about that. Don't think "outspoken" really covers it - I simply can't imagine Geoff Boycott texting advice to the opposition during a test match, or accompanying them to a nightclub after they'd beaten England? |

The thing that slightly annoys me is that he scores one big score and expects to walk into the England team. The arrogance he has is truly unbelievable. Graves said something like come back and score lots of runs. One big score, no matter how big, is not lots of runs. If he was to commit to playing for surrey, play the full season and score runs, then perhaps, perhaps, he could be selected for the winter tours. I think that also tallys with what Strauss said - he is not in the immediate plans for England, because he hasn't played any county cricket or even four-day cricket in 2 years. How can you pick him ahead of all the others that have worked to get their chance. The Lyths, Taylors, Hales of this world. The latter of whom, by the way, also has a big hundred this year.... |

Doctor K
You can't pick him in front of them. The mistake they made was calling him to a meeting -just leave it alone and pick him or not if you feel it appropriate. I don't see why you have to explain in public your decision to select (or not) certain players.

KP is an arrogant so and so. He doesn't put up with crap He speaks his mind. He has scored 23 test match hundreds, more than 8,000 test runs at an average of 47. He deserves some respect for his achievements. He is old enough and the middle order is strong enough in the test side that we probably don't need the agro he brings. The one day side is so pathetically weak that we could do with KP in there for another 10 years. |

On a bit of a catch up. Classic Fozzy. Yeah you've captained some 2 bit Sunday League team and you think you know how to handle massive talents and headaches like KP. "Add in that the guy is a complete dick, who only thinks of himself. Having played in and captained teams with that type of person, they're better off without him." |

Surrey Phil
If this week's match is anything to go by, KP not playing for England can only be good for Surrey.

Now that KP has got on the first plane to India, I think we begin to see what is going on. Graves comments that the door is not closed, anyone who is in county cricket scoring heavily can be considered for selection etc (the standard, sensible, "no guarantees but we don't want to exclude anyone") has been taken by KP (in that way he has) that if he gets some really big scores, he is pretty much guaranteed to get back into the side on the big stage (Ashes test series)which made it worth his while not to play IPL and, told that it is not going to work like that (because Cook is likely to be Captain for the summer, apart from anything else, and he CLEARLY has a problem with KP and is also an exceptional player), and that no-one is guaranteed a place, has gone off in a huff. He IS an exceptional talent and you should never close the door on people with that ability, but you can't cut special deals with them, either.
