After a pretty dismal winter tour, it's a wonder why several players are not looking over their shoulders. No-one should assume selection (or not in the case of KP). Sadly, most of the money generated comes from internationals and there are too many of them. Youngsters seem to only get along to T20 games and even then are missing a lot of the star names at county level. It was not that long ago when international players returned to their counties to play a cup tie or even an odd championship game. I went to Whitgift School (Croydon) to see Surrey play a Hampshire side that included Shane Warne. The interest generated was enormous just for a one-day game. If KP plays regularly for Surrey and finds his form regularly, we might even see larger crowds for many matches at The Oval this season.

Looks admiringly at Pier's twitter feed and TV "interviews". Leaves in a huff. Gets Injured. Upshot. He never wanted to play for Surrey. Another team let down.

I'm also not convinced that Moeen is the long term spin option. TBH, post Jimmy, I'm not even remotely sure what any of the long term bowling options are.
