Don't mind them in terms of the fact they 'compensate' counties for losing their best players to the national team, but the bit that annoys me is that they are often used excessively to prevent the test and ODI players playing for their counties. Rest is important for international players, but when Joe Root only plays about 2 county games in 3-4years, something is wrong. The problem saying opportunity for youth is that if Yorkshire (as often happens), lose say Root, Bairstow, Malan, Bess, Rashid (although he only plays one day now), it leaves a very barebones side - none of the county squads are huge. Now half the Yorkshire side are playing for other counties, some are playing in the hundred, which leaves Gary Ballance and (currently) Dom Bess leading Yorkshire....
