Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

[Desperately hopes he doesn't get expelled from the thread for liking the hundred. Honest everyone - the only reason I can watch it on sky is because I bought a now tv pass for the recent test matches]

It's short-form cricket featuring some of the best players in the world, as a cricket fan there's a lot to like about it. We don't need another format, we don't need franchise teams, but that aside, it's fun to watch competition between good players.

And back to proper cricket, in the next phase of the County Championships Hampshire start with 8.5 points. My understanding was that points gained against Somerset in the initial phase would be carried forward, this works out at 17, any ideas why only half the points get carried forward?

They played each other twice... no, it was to make it fairer. It was possible that a team would have a 40 point head start on others. Unlikely, but possible. As it is, the gap can still be closed in a single match.

I would have thought it was fairer for Somerset to have the full 37 points they gained against Hampshire, it devalues the work your fellas did earlier in the season. But there you go - I'm happy to have any deficits halved!

Glad it was yours that came through, we'd have had less points if the noisy neighbours had qualified!!

I'd rather they'd have played all 5 teams once, including the teams you'd already played -that'd be fairer.

Yorkshire have no chance of winning the Championship due to carrying basically no points over, but because Lancashire lost to the other sides, this no longer counts.

Anyway, I'm mystified why Yorkshire Players Malan, Root, Bairstow aren't playing for Yorkshire in this new competition. Seems stupid.

Same here, fozzy - not that I'm bothered about the Hundred anyway but not attempting to map local counties' players onto their local franchise (yuck) does seem a bit of a marketing OG.

There was a draft system based england qualification, overseas players and pay. Nowt to do with counties, which would be right as it is a franchise.

Thanks, OH - that technically makes sense.

I know the Hundred wasn't built for the like of me, which is fine, but they can FRO if they expect me to support a localish franchise that doesn't even have any of our usual players. If it fails, I'm expecting a bunch of passive-aggressive bullshit from the ECB blaming existing cricket fans for failing to get behind the concept.
